trudon

distinctly french and unquestionably elegant, trudon’s handcrafted candles are lit and loved the world over

the history of trudon

established in 1643 during the reign of louis XIV, trudon is the world’s oldest candlemaker still in operation today. founded by claude trudon, the history-steeped brand began as a small spice and candle shop on paris’ famous rue saint honoré. thanks to innovative manufacturing techniques, in 1719 trudon earned the royal manufacture designation. the candles quickly gained popularity among french nobility and were used in versailles as well as the imperial court during napoleon’s reign. in 1773, trudon heir jérome trudon purchased the royal wax manufacture, changing its motto to “deo regique laborant,” which translates to “they work for god and the king.” trudon has maintained the same commitment to craftsmanship and innovation for centuries, and their candles and fragrances are recognized as some of the best in the world.

craftsmanship and design

as a timeless object, trudon candles are the expression of exceptional know how, from waxing to packaging. each candle is handmade in normandy using techniques passed down for centuries. the wax is formulated for exceptional olfactory and burning qualities, and all scents are developed with care and patience in partnership with renowned perfumers. cotton wicks are chosen based on the shape and size of the vessel, ensuring ensuring the candles are smokeless and that no wax is left on the sides of the glass as it burns. the unique glasses, inspired by the shape of champagne buckets, are handcrafted in Tuscany and feature the trudon emblem which pays tribute to the bees that contribute to the quality of the candles as well as louis XIV who created the royal wax manufacture.
