about the role
scarpa is looking for a in-house bookkeeper | junior accountant to manage our financial operations, oversee accounts payable and treasury, reconcile all accounts, maintain accurate books in QuickBooks, and serve as the connective tissue between finance, inventory, purchasing, and leadership.
this person is a “borderline accountant”—stronger than the typical bookkeeper, capable of dual-entry work, reconciliations, and higher-level financial support, but not required to be a CPA. a strong fit enjoys digging into discrepancies, improving financial processes, and problem-solving across teams. the position reports directly to the founder and CEO. daily work is required with an estimated minimum of 30 hours per week. based on proficiency this could be a semi full-time or full-time position.
in this role, you will:
accounts payable & vendor management
- enter all bills and credits into
- maintain all vendor files and ensure accurate posting of invoices and credits
- work closely with the inventory team to verify bill accuracy, shipments, credits, and landed cost details
- communicate with vendors regarding discrepancies, missing credits, and items on open vendor statements
- review vendor statements and reconcile outstanding balances
- produce and maintain a constantly updated payables report for leadership approval
- manage foreign vendor accounts via preseason deposits, in season prepayments prior to shipment and maintain the related QuickBooks accounts
- process rent, property taxes, and sales tax payments as required
- run bi-weekly payroll and transfer bi-weekly HSA, FSA and DCFSA amounts to our benefits company
account management & reconciliation
- download and categorize all credit card charges
- reconcile corporate credit cards and maintain supporting documentation
- reconcile corporate checking accounts to ensure complete and accurate dual-entry accounting
- perform daily treasury management, including monitoring balances, cash flow, and upcoming payables
- ensure consistent, timely payment of sales tax across relevant jurisdictions
- support timely month-end close, including journal entries and financial statement preparation
general
- be comfortable working with multiple currencies and exchange rate considerations
- maintain audit-ready records with exceptional attention to detail
- collaborate with other team members and departments in clear, friendly, and effective ways
- identify issues proactively and drive solutions independently
- apply strong dual-entry accounting fundamentals in all work
- participate in process improvements to strengthen controls, reduce errors, and streamline workflow
- contribute to a positive, collaborative culture—because we really do enjoy working with fun people who solve problems.

- you enjoy or have experience with tax planning, budgeting, or asset management

qualifications & experience
required
- 3–5+ years in bookkeeping, AP, AR, treasury, or junior accounting roles
- strong experience with QuickBooks (desktop or online)
- strong excel/google sheets skills
- strong reconciliation skills
- excellent communication with both team members and external partners
- ability to maintain confidentiality and precision in all financial work
- naturally detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business.
preferred
- experience with multi-currency accounting and international vendor communication
- experience in retail, e-commerce, fashion/footwear, or inventory-heavy businesses
- familiarity with POS and inventory systems such as Heartland Retail, Shopify, or similar
- prior experience with sales tax, multi-location operations, or foreign vendors.
