team scarpa: 1995 – 1996

tia

what are you up to these days?
living in brooklyn and momming my two favorite people. I head strategic development for a large-scale venture philanthropy organization.
can you share a favorite scarpa memory?
two stories always stick out:
I celebrated my 21st birthday while working at scarpa. amy gifted me two beautiful wine glasses (one red, one white) and a book on wine regions and varietals. fast forward many years and I still love wine tasting and travel.
very early in the pandemic, we traveled to my hometown for a week — to wait for things in ny to improve. five months later, we were still there. I pretty much bought my entire remote wardrobe through scarpa online. it was such a crazy unplanned transition, but scarpa made it much better.
what’s on your holiday wishlist?
a wooden salad bowl, a new spinelli killcolin ring and a joyful holiday with my family.
where will you spend the holidays this year?
new york on christmas day, then road tripping to virginia to be with family.
scarpa life lessons?
to go the extra mile for clients and create a welcoming environment.
what’s the secret to giving a good gift?
first of all, if I could be a super hero, I would be santa — I love gift giving! my gifts tend to fall into two categories: items that I really love and items I’ve secretly heard a friend family member mention in passing and make a note to buy for a special occasion or holiday.

tammy

how did you get started at scarpa?
when scarpa first opened I asked amy if she was hiring and she asked if I wanted a job for money or for a discount on shoes. yes– I needed a job to buy shoes at a discount.
what are you up to now?
I am a head and neck surgeon at duke with a science lab focused on racial disparities in head and neck cancer. I also direct diversity, equity, and inclusion for the duke cancer institute.
any scarpa pieces you still have?
pink pearlized patent leather kenneth cole loafers. I also bought my sister a pair because she cried when she found out she was having another boy and I wanted her to have something pink. she still has hers. they're discolored and in the front of her closet even though she doesn't wear them.
what's on your holiday wishlist?
peace and diamonds.
scarpa life lessons?
you should be able to have fun at work.
what’s the secret to giving a good gift?
pay attention. details matter...doesn't have to be expensive.
